The PanAm games had not even begun, when COC president Marcel Aubut suggested that Toronto seriously consider bidding for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Now, with the completion of the games and the record number of medals for Canadian athletes, the push is on from certain quarters to go ahead and bid for the Olympics.

“Years ago I strongly believed in the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the gun lobby’s slogan “guns don’t kill, people kill.” And, while I still agree that “guns don’t kill” in and of themselves, it’s the nut whose finger is on the trigger who kills.”

So you celebrated Earth Hour – Now what?

So you went out and celebrated Earth Hour again this year. For one single hour in this entire year you “sacrificed” by turning off your lights! Big deal! If you went out to participate in the many events that were scheduled around the world, you most likely took with you your cellphone, or other energy-sucking electronic device that you just can’t seem to live without, to ensure that you recorded yourself “doing good” for the environment. Then when you got home you just couldn’t wait to upload your pictures and show all your internet “friends” what you’d been doing as proof that you care. Sorry, but your so-called concern for the environment we all share doesn’t impress me in the least.

American Children and the Gun Issue

The strange complexities of American childhood – old enough for Uzis, too young for Kinder eggs and parks!  American laws, as well as some public attitudes, regarding child protection are totally lacking in common sense, if not downright ludicrous. Nothing illustrates this more clearly, then several events which occurred within weeks of each other.

Black Friday – has it gone too far?

Wednesday, December 10th, 2014

Black Friday, the Thursday before Black Friday, the week before Black Friday, Cyber-Monday, etc., soon it will be Black Friday month, if this trend continues. Maybe it might be better to simply create another “holiday” not “holyday” dedicated to the “God” of merchandising and manufacturing. It could be called the “Shop Till You Drop Bargain-hunting Day,” or “Look at the loot I got for next to nothing,” or any other similarly appropriate name. But definitely do not call it “Christmas” shopping. Jostling with hundreds if not thousands of people in crowded stores and malls is not what Christmas is about. And fighting over the same “drastically” reduced item has nothing in common with the season or spirit of goodwill.

“The United States has been in trouble before – it is hard to think of any government since the days of George Washington where the chains of the Constitution’s checks and balances were not being tugged and rattled by struggles between the President, the Congress and Senate, and the Supreme Court….” – John Thompson.

No clear choice in this Ontario election

Ontario voters are facing another election and unlike many of them, this voter couldn’t care less. Forgive my cynicism, but none of the leaders and none of the parties offer anything of value for the residents of Ontario.

“There is also little evidence that immigrant investors as a class are maintaining ties to Canada or making a positive economic contribution to the country.” – Former Finance Minister Jim Flaherty.

Mounting evidence of Immigrant Investor Program fraud

This is part two of two; part one appears immediately above this post.

“If you report 500 million, okay, you need to tell them one by one where the 500 million come from. So if our client owns 500 million, we just say they have 20 million. Twenty million is a bit easier to explain. We need to find paperwork which can prove he earned the 20 million, that’s all. We can’t say he has 500 million, otherwise he has explain where it all came from. That would be super difficult.” – Globe & Mail.

Chinese Millionaires & Canada’s Investor Immigrant Program

Thursday, March 13th, 2014

I thought I had heard everything. But the news on March 4, 2014, that Chinese millionaires at a press conference in Beijing “pleaded” with Canadian officials to allow them to immigrate and their reasons for applying to Canada, takes the cake. This follows Ottawa’s recent decision to cancel the investor class immigration program and with it the backlog of more than 65,000 people, the majority of whom are communist Chinese! Not mentioned in most reports was the fact that the millionaires held their press conference at the posh Beijing Park Hyatt.
