Britain proposes employers hand over all salaries to the government

I left England in 1966 largely to escape from Harold Wilson and his brand of socialism, which I equated pretty-much with communism.  One shock was when I worked half-an-hour overtime one week, moved into a higher tax bracket, and received exactly 1/2d less in my pay packet.  I loathe and despise socialism with a deep and abiding passion.

Russia selling ship-killing missiles to Syria

“Israel says the sale, which was initially agreed in 2007, threatens to alter the strategic military balance in the Levant because the missile could pose a serious threat to its naval ships in the Mediterranean Sea.” (Emphasis added).

So that’s what the fuss is about.  There is no “strategic military balance” in the Levant or anywhere else in the Middle East; Israel enjoys overwhelming conventional military superiority and is determined to keep it that way…  Jeff Goodall

Muslim women under Sharia law

How is it that the ‘women’s-lib’ types are so quiet on this issue? –JG.

If you find it hard to believe that women received 40 lashes in Sudan recently for wearing (wide) trousers, read about the life of women under Sharia (religious Muslim) law. A warning.

A3P (American Third Position)

Below is a current news item sent by the A3P to persons who have asked to be placed on their e-mail list.

Despite heroic efforts by some, Canada seems to be woefully behind in terms of such information being available, and this is undoubtedly a reflection of the difference between having constitutional rights to free speech, (America’s First Amendment), and the lack of such protections in Canada.

F-35 purchase: If we don’t defend ourselves, the Americans will…

“…the CF-18 fighters based in Quebec and Alberta have been flying since the mid-1980s, and are due to be retired by mid-decade… if we don’t enforce our own sovereignty, particularly our sovereignty over Arctic air and waters, the Americans will do it for us. This is not an outcome Canadians want.”

Attack on Iran: Laying the groundwork

“If war with Iran comes to be seen as a “default” condition, then it will be increasingly difficult for cooler heads (including President Obama himself) to say no… If the United States does launch an attack, it will be doing so in part on Israel’s behalf, and the lobby will bear significant responsibility for having pushed this dangerous policy.”

Israel behind rocket attack?

I have often wondered why “terrorist” rocket attacks from Gaza 1) rarely do much if any damage, and 2) the timing of them usually advances Israel’s interests in some way or another.

Speculation is something I try to avoid, but this is not just an interesting item, it is also something I have never seen before.

This could be propaganda, or it could be legitimate.  I will be watching to see if there is any follow-up to it.

Dalton McGuinty in la-la-land

“Once you dismiss the small fact that electronic devices are noisy and distracting and make effective teaching virtually impossible, the classroom possibilities are truly endless.”

Hang up on McGuinty’s cellphones-in-schools plan

National Post Editorial: September 16t, 2010

There are some statements that make even the most ardent supporters of public schools shake their heads and wonder if having politicians in charge of our kids’ education is really the best idea.

Border Patrol fired on from Mexico while making drug bust

Border Patrol agents “have always been very good about not shooting back unless there is a life-threatening situation.”

U.S. border patrol agents in ‘firefight’ with Mexican gang

Associated Press: September 14th, 2010

SAN ANTONIO — U.S. Border Patrol agents fired gunshots into Mexico after coming under attack during a half-ton drug bust and giving chase to a truck along the Rio Grande, U.S. authorities said Monday.
