Defending Israel “a huge part of my work” – U.S. ambassador

“She (U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice) said she often works in ‘lockstep’ with the Israeli delegation.” – Jewish Daily Forward.

Susan Rice has made astonishingly honest observations before, and it would seem that she and President Obama are now being forced to make amends; in a Haaretz editorial dated February 21st, 2011, we are told that “After hesitating until the very last moment, U.S. President Barack Obama decided to have his envoy veto the UN Security Council resolution condemning the settlements… In explaining the veto decision, the U.S. ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, denounced the “illegitimacy” of the settlements and stressed that Obama agreed with the resolution’s sponsors but had to oppose it for political reasons.”

Well, really.

But just a little over two years later we have a complete turnaround, with Rice now saying that she constantly opposes efforts to de-legitimize Israel, and works “in lockstep” with the Israeli delegation to the UN.

In my commentary on the Haaretz editorial I said that “A corner has been turned, and I am suddenly beginning to feel far more positive about the future.”  Wrong!  The Israeli government, through its massive lobby, still owns the Americans and their veto power at the United Nations.

Food for thought…
