“We have politicians walking down the street, throwing rose petals and money at these events, yet air ambulance is a shambles and you’ve got people freezing in the snow waiting for a bus.” – Gregory Thomas, national director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
“Gays are not satisfied with tolerance, or even acceptance. They demand outright approval, and ‘approval’ has to be demonstrated in concrete terms, such as in funding and attending their lavish public indulgences.” – JG.
In his article “Time for Pride (and others) to pay their own way”, Mike Strobel of the Toronto Sun said yesterday that “All levels of government sink your hard-earned cash into Pride Week, including the province with $350,000 and the city with $140,000.”
He thinks that is wrong, and while rather disturbingly approving of the right to be gay, and gratuitously gushing that “Pride is a wonderful thing”, he does perhaps unknowingly stick his neck out by saying that they, and other groups, should be required to pay their own way.
He is looking for serious trouble by saying that, as is Gregory Thomas, (quoted above), who likely has little idea what he is walking into.
(On reflection, I have to say that Thomas’ comments may have referred to any number of cultural and other grants including those made for “Gay Pride” events. His quote by Strobel may be somewhat out of context, but is still generally useful.)
You misunderstand what the word “approval” means in this context, Mike…
“Gays” are not satisfied with tolerance, or even acceptance. They demand outright approval, and “approval” has to be demonstrated in concrete terms, such as in funding and attending their lavish public indulgences.
That is why Mayor Ford, (and mayors and politicians elsewhere), have been so loudly and incessantly criticized, with some even being dragged in front of “human rights” commissions.
Mayor Ford recently capitulated, perhaps because he has had so many other demanding and controversial issues to deal with.
But I can assure you that there is absolutely no way that Toronto politicians will be able to stop funding “Gay Pride” events, unless they receive overwhelming public support – or, where necessary, vote-threatening criticism.
You know what to do, folks…
