The ongoing Stephen Harper – Israel “Love-In”

“Israel is a racist theocracy, which treats all citizens who are not Jewish as second rate inferiors. It practices apartheid, and subjects the Palestinans to a brutal military occupation that has killed many thousands including women and children… To praise Israel in the name of all Canadians is an unacceptable breach of decency and common sense, and deserves to be condemned…”

It seems to me that Stephen Harper’s pandering obsequience to Jewish/Israeli interests now merits the addition of a sub-section to the “Israel Lobby” category.

I find it absolutely astonishing that Harper has nothing but praise and support for such a racist “rogue state” as Israel, with its brutal military occupation of Palestine, carried out with blatant disregard for international law and U.N. resolutions.

As I said in February 2011, “Harper’s gracelessly pro-Israel stand, in defiance of Canadians’ more even-handed approach to the Middle-East, means that any mandarin or minister not showing favouritism towards Israel runs the distinct risk of a wrecked career or a political demotion.”  An update on that is contained in the “Canadian Jewish praise for Harper” item below.

And as I said in March, 2011: “Israel is a racist theocracy, which treats all citizens who are not Jewish as second rate inferiors. It practices apartheid, and subjects the Palestinans to a brutal military occupation that has killed many thousands including women and children.

“To praise Israel in the name of all Canadians is an unacceptable breach of decency and common sense, and deserves to be condemned by those who care about human rights and fair treatment for all.

“Shame on you, Mr. Prime Minister.”

This is the first entry to this new sub-category, but there are several older items that will be put in here also, including those from which the above quotes are taken.

Even then, some people are never satisfied…

A past Israeli Ambassador to Canada, in concert with six Toronto-area lawyers, is demanding  that Canada’s Foreign Affairs website be changed “to align it with statements and policies publicly expressed by the Prime Minister, yourself and other government representatives”.

This is because the website refers to the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights, as “occupied territories” and states that the construction of Israeli settlements, and a large barrier inside those areas, are illegal… here.

As of posting, the Foreign Affairs website section on the Middle East, “Canadian Policy on Key Issues in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict”, still reflects the even-handed approach that the vast majority of Canadians take towards that and the other conflicts and disputes going on throughout the world.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes before Jewish pressure and the Israel Lobby succeed in having this stance “sanitized” in favour of continued Israeli expansion and ethnic cleansing…

And why has Israel always refused to define its borders?
