“The vast majority of teaching staff have spent their entire lives in a classroom. From nursery to primary school, from primary onto secondary, then on to college and university and back into the classroom as teachers… They have virtually no concept of reality outside of the school gates. And what is extremely worrying is that these are the people who are entrusted to shape young minds… This is why for the last twenty years we’ve seen school leavers who can barely function in society, have no social skills, are completely over-sensitive and have next to nothing to offer the job market except for a deep knowledge of ‘racism’ and safe spaces’.” – Darren Holdstock, “The vast majority of teaching staff have spent their entire lives in a classroom” – British National Party, March 11th, 2017.
“The moral of the recent melee at Middlebury College, where students shouted down and chased away a controversial social scientist, isn’t just about free speech, though that’s the rubric under which the ugly incident has been tucked. It’s about emotional coddling. It’s about intellectual impoverishment… They came to believe that it’s morally dignified and politically constructive to scream rather than to reason, to hurl slurs in place of arguments… They have been done a terrible disservice. All of us have, and we need to reacquaint ourselves with what education really means and what colleges do and don’t owe their charges.” – Frank Bruni, “Campus protesters, in their religious fervour, seek politically incorrect heretics to burn” – National Post, March 13th, 2017.
“USC San Diego students are upset that the Dalai Lama, the 1989 Nobel Peace Price winner has been invited to speak to them… The Chinese student association is protesting the school’s invitation to the Dalai Lama and claiming that he is ‘oppressive’ and ‘offensive.’ Why is he oppressive? Because the Dalai Lama argues that the Chinese rule of Tibet is unlawful and that the people of Tibet deserve to live as a free people.” – Jeff Dunetz, “Crazy! Liberal college students protest the visit of ‘oppressive and fffensive’ Dalai Lama” – Lidblog, Feb. 21st, 2017.
“Black girls are disproportionately punished in American schools – an ‘overlooked crisis’ that is populating the school-to-prison pipeline at rising rates, two education scholars argue in a new paper… ‘Zero tolerance constructs these young girls as criminals… It’s a criminalization of their childhood, and it’s a very prison-type mentality for schools to take… We cannot afford to have more black girls’ identities snuffed out by disciplinary policies and ultimately the educational and criminal justice systems,’ the study says.” – Michigan State University, “Zero tolerance policies unfairly punish black girls” – Feb. 16th, 2017.
“According to the Los Angeles Times, a number of teachers in the Jurupa Valley, California High School were delighted. One tweeted that many of the boycotting (Day Without Immigrants) students used the occasion ‘as an excuse to be lazy and/or get drunk,’ adding ‘Best school day ever.’ Another said those AWOL were ‘failing students.’ Yet another noted that the ‘cafeteria was much cleaner after lunch and there were no discipline issues. More please’… Naturally, the educators were all placed on administrative leave for their shocking insensitivity. Nothing happened to the truants.” – Don Feder, “The Great Wall Of China built to keep out undocumented Mongol immigrants” – GrasstopsUSA, Feb. 22nd, 2017.
