“(Lesbian) Premier Kathleen Wynne and Minister Liz Sandals have promised that the teaching of ‘enthusiastic sexual consent’ will be weaved throughout the sex-ed curriculum, beginning in grade 1… By age 12, students will be given instruction on ‘understanding of your own body, including what gives you pleasure’… In grade 8, the teacher is to help students make a ‘sexual plan for themselves’… The curriculum will teach the disputed theory of ‘gender identity’ as if it were fact… [even though we know that] gender identity theory is not science-based teaching, but rather a dangerous socio-political philosophy that seeks to normalize a mental disorder… The curriculum will also normalize homosexual family structures and homosexual ‘marriage’ in the minds of 8-year-olds, without regard for the religious/moral beliefs of families.” – Liberty Institute of Canada, “The clear and present danger of Ontario’s depraved sex-ed curriculum” – June 6th, 2017.

“As a trans person, I run into this attitude all the time. I constantly hear cis (Cisgender – meaning someone whose gender corresponds to their “assigned sex” -JG) people raging about how a trans person is ‘lying’ if they don’t come out to a potential partner before dating them… it is transphobic to claim to not be attracted to all trans, (sic) people. For example, there is a difference between saying you won’t go out with someone for having a penis and saying you won’t go out with someone because they’re trans.” – Tiffany Berruti, “No, I don’t have to tell you I’m trans before dating you” – Odyssey on-line, March 21st, 2016.

“The Ontario SPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre will be putting its paws up for Pride Toronto on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25 to celebrate uniqueness, while bringing people and animals together as one community… Be sure to visit the Ontario SPCA booth at Yonge Street and Wellesley Street East, right outside the Wellesley TTC station. Come by to say hello, pick up some pet information and help us celebrate the history, courage and diversity of our community.” – Copy-and-paste from Ontario SPCA email bulletin, June 15th, 2017.

“Mandating use of pronouns requires one to use words that are not their own that imply a belief in or agreement with a certain theory on gender… If you try to disavow that theory, you can be brought before the Human Rights Commission for misgendering or potentially find yourself guilty of a hate crime. To sum up, on the subject of gender, we’re going to have government-mandated speech.” – Lianne Laurence, “Breaking: Canada passes radical law forcing gender theory acceptance” – LifeSiteNews, June 15th, 2017.

“A lot of trans youth, and trans people in general, avoid institutions and public spaces because of the fear and the threats that happen in these public spaces… the city needs to address systemic social problems that create barriers in all aspects of a trans youth’s life… There is also a need for more representation in positions of leadership, authority and status in the services they are accessing… Role models and/or possibility models are important for youth to see themselves reflected, find kinship with and have community members who understand their lived experiences and identities.” (Emphasis added) – “Danielle” Araya, quoted by David Rider in “Bathrooms just the first of many barriers transgender youths face, report says” – Toronto Star, June 7th, 2017.
