“Turner’s complaint was against the City of Ottawa. She claimed that the city’s pedestrian light signals discriminated against her because the signal indicating it’s safe to cross looked like a white able-bodied cis-hetero man, whereas she identifies as a ‘black, lesbian-feminist, female trans-gender and an advocate for the disabled.’ These are the complaints that the HRT now spends time and money on.” – Eugene Fernandes, “Let’s abolish Human Rights Tribunals!” – The Post Millennial, August 2nd, 2019.
“My remark regarding the inclusion of transgender models in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show came across as insensitive. I apologize… To be clear, we absolutely would cast a transgender model for the show. We’ve had transgender models come to castings… And like many others, they didn’t make it… But it was never about gender. I admire and respect their journey to embrace who they really are.” – Ben Kew, “Victoria’s Secret hires its first transgender model” – Breitbart, August 5th, 2019.
“Joni Clark, a non-binary person based in Leeds, said: ‘There’s definitely been an uptick in hostility in the last couple of years but I think that’s because people are often misled; there’s been such a huge amount of transphobic press and a really sustained transphobic hate campaign in the UK the last two years’… Hate crime against transgender people is the fastest-growing form of hate crime in the UK, rising 427% between 2011/12 and 2017/18.” – Robyn Vinter, “Meet the Yorkshire non-binary gender community fighting back against a rising tide of stigma and hate” – Yorkshire Post, August 3rd, 2019.
“The psychologist who was treating AB, Dr. IJ, has publicly stated that only 2% to 20% of transgender kids stay transgender. The vast majority grow out of it. Dr. IJ’s claim is consistent with medical research, which shows that more than 80% of gender-confused children accept their biological gender by the time they are 18, absent ‘affirmation therapy’ and cross-sex hormones… However, if gender-confused children receive pubertal suppressant drugs and opposite-sex hormones, most will continue with the gender transition process past the age of 18.” – John Carpay, “B.C. court ruling against father in child hormone treatment case sets dangerous precedent” – The Post Millennial, August 6th, 2019.
“Yaniv has presented to Council on ten separate occasions since the beginning of this year, usually on LGBTQ issues. On her April 15th appearance, Yaniv advocated for free tampons and pads to be placed in female, male, and gender-neutral washrooms in the Township of Langley… On her May 27th appearance, Yaniv requested the creation of a local LGBTQ school program where youth can learn about how to take hormones to change their gender. During that delegation, Yaniv wore a tiara, pageant dress, and cleavage enhancers that were seemingly left visible on purpose.” – Lindsay Shepherd, “LGBTQ advocate Jessica Yaniv demands topless swim session for ages 12+, no parents allowed” – The Post Millennial, July 23rd, 2019.
“The letter reads that the student feared victimization and wished to remain anonymous for that reason, alleging that Best ‘is in direct conflict with [the University’s] social media conduct policy.’ At one point, the student refers the University to Best’s social media and Medium accounts to identify more transphobia, stating ‘I could not go through much more without harming my own mental health’… In its conclusion, the letter lists statistics on the drop out rates and violence perpetrated against transgender University students, asserting ‘we can’t treat these views as just a difference of opinion’… The articles discuss many issues ranging from Best’s own experiences as an HIV positive gay man in the changing LGBT community, to concerns about misogyny and male self-identification in women’s spaces.” – Anna Slatz, “U.K. PhD student to be investigated for transphobia” – The Post Millennial, August 4th, 2019.
